Happy Chinese New Year!
February 5, 2011 at 2:22 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentEvery year in the United States, Chinese New Year is a grand celebration in cities like New York, San Francisco and many others. Madrid also had a celebration last week in the Puerta del Sol. And in Nicole’s Saturday Young Learners class also!
It is the year of the Rabbit. But dragons were the stars in this class. Students created dragons to show good luck for the coming year. Take a look, and make a wish for the new year!
Young Learners 3: You’re a poet and you know it!
February 4, 2011 at 2:31 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentElizabeth’s Saturday class wrote original “cinquains,” a special type of poem, for the holidays. A cinquain is a 5-line poem that follows a pattern. As you can see, we have some talented poets at the International Institute!

Kids’ Culture Club
February 2, 2011 at 3:20 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment“What kind of goat are you?” …….. “What’s that? Goat?”
Yes, you heard correctly. The Kids’ Club recently shared the story “Two Goats on a Bridge”, or as they know it “The Helpful Goats” with parents, and we’d like to share it with you! It is a “call and response” story, which means that everything is first said by a “caller” and then repeated by everyone listening. It is also a puppet story, (it is very visual) so we made goat puppets and acted it out. It was a blast! Here’s the story: (Without the puppets, you have to use your imagination. Remember that every line is repeated.)
Hill
Hill
Goat
Goat
One day
Goat came down
Crossed the bridge
Ate some grass
Went back
One day
Goat came down
Crossed the bridge
Ate some grass
Went back
One day
Both goats came down
Crossed the bridge
Hey
Hey
I want to cross
I want to cross too
And they pushed
And pushed
And… splash
Hmm, she wasn’t a helpful goat
Well, she wasn’t a helpful goat
Story number two
Hill
Hill
Goat
Goat
One day
Goat came down
Crossed the bridge
Ate some grass
Went back
One day
Goat came down
Crossed the bridge
Ate some grass
Went back
One day
Both goats came down
Crossed the bridge
Hey
Hey
I want to cross
I want to cross too
Ok, I’ll step back
And I’ll squeeze
And they squeezed
And POP
Crossed the bridge
Ate some grass
Went back
Oh, what a helpful goat
My, what a cooperative goat
Now, the question is…
What kind of goat are you?
