Young Learners 4: How to Train Your Dragon
May 5, 2014 at 11:02 am | Posted in Clases Young Learners, Uncategorized, Young Learners 4 | Leave a commentThe Tuesday-Thursday group of Young Learners 4 has been doing advanced vocabulary study through a segment of one of the books from the series ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. There is also a series of movies which is loosely based on the book, and the third is coming out in June (it would be a great follow-up of the segments they’ve done to go see the movie when it comes out!). The students used their artistic ability and creative imagination to create the flashcards you see here, later used in games for vocabulary memorization.

Career Day 2: Young Learners 5 and 6
March 12, 2013 at 2:59 pm | Posted in Clases Young Learners, Young Learners 5, Young Learners 6 | 1 CommentEste mes los alumnos de Young Learners 6 tuvieron otra visita, esta vez de un antropólogo. Neahga Leonard habló con las alumnas de Christine, y los de Alex en Young Learners 5, sobre sus experiencias trabajando en el extranjero. Aquí pueden leer el resumen que escribieron en la clase de Young Learners 6.
Last week, an anthropologist named Neahga Leonard gave us a talk about his life experiences living and working abroad.
He was born and raised in Northern California , where he was always surrounded by nature. Ever since he was a little boy, he liked climbing trees, going on hikes, etc. When he got older, he decided to study something related to ecology. He earned a master’s degree in anthropology and when he finished, he travelled to Alaska to study the movements of the glaciers. While there, he would put a stake in the ice to see how much it moved from one week to the next. Later on, he went to South America to work on a project to protect bears, which were endangered because a lot of farmers killed them because they ate their harvests. A lot of people helped and when the project was successfully completed, he started working on another project in Asia. He lived in China for a while. The last project he took part in fell through. He had planned to live in Indonesia, but he ended up coming to Madrid to visit and he is currently searching for a new job opportunity.
Throughout his adventures he has had some really exciting experiences. The project that we found most interesting was the one with the bears and he told us some stories that happened there. One time he had to put a tracking collar on a bear to follow its movements. Another time, when he was asleep, he heard something scratching at his tent and he realized it was a bear when it scratched his shoulder.
Neahga loves our planet and he told us that in every single place on Earth you can find something interesting.
Muchas gracias a Neahga por venir, y a Christine por organizar la visita.
Valentine’s day and Candy Conversation Hearts
February 20, 2013 at 11:47 am | Posted in Clases Young Learners, Holidays, Kids Club, Young Learners 4 | Leave a commentTags: writing
This Valentine’s Day we were lucky to receive a present of candy conversation hearts from Boston! These candies are typical American Valentine’s day treats. Some people like eating them, but some people don’t think they taste very good. Our students really liked them!
Conversation hearts are also fun to use for decoration. The Kids’ Club students made Valentine cards for their parents, and the YL 4 students used the hearts to write love letters. Who were the love letters for? Only the students know the answer to that! The Young Learners 4 students also matched words and definitions to fix “broken hearts.”
Here are some pictures of the students’ Valentine’s Day messages.
